Have you ever noticed some people seem to be prone to easy bruising? Maybe it’s you, or your spouse. Bruises can be unsightly and even prevent you from doing what you really want to do sometimes, out of embarrassment. It’s a real problem for some people. Eating limes, or any foods high in Vitamin C will help overcome scurvy and thus the associated bruising.
Citrus bioflavonoids, which are obtained from a plant source, are believed to help reduce bruises. This was confirmed in laboratory testing in a double-blind study with a placebo. It visibly helped patients with fragile capillaries. A substance called bromelain contains an enzyme that is able to digest the proteins in the blood that allow bruises to form. Also, the bilberry plant has been shown to provide an effective supplement to help in this area of easy bruising.
Another major player in the anti-bruising campaign is Vitamin K. It’s long been known to be important in the blood clotting process, but it’s also been found to help strengthen blood vessel walls. One way to make sure you get the right vitamins in your diet is to take vitamin supplements. Get supplement compounds that contain the ingredients above.
Some medications, even full strength aspirin and ibuprofen, can support chronic bruising. Some antidepressants and anticoagulants can do the same thing. You should consult your doctor in these cases. There may be a correlation between the bruising and your meds, and perhaps something can be done to help alleviate the problem. Antioxidants are also known to help in the reduction of bruising. Super-antioxidants like pycnogenol and grape seed extract can be a big help here. If you see you’re already starting to get a bruise, try rubbing in some arnica cream right away. It also comes in a gel. Applying it twice a day should speed up the healing process significantly and cut down some of the darker discoloration.
